COMMEMORATING THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CIVIL WAR WITH

THE FINEST ORIGINAL SOLDIER'S LETTERS AND ARTIFACTS
38th Alabama Premonition of Death

In the Alabama Review, January 1950, there is a long article by a Mr. Robert Parton entitled “An Alabama Confederate Soldiers Report to His Wife”.  The article concerns Hiram Talbert Holt, who was killed in action in 1864.  We are offering one of Holt’s finest letters dated June 16th, 1862.

Written several months after the Battle of Shiloh, and following the death of several close friends in Alabama regiments during the Peninsular Campaign in Virginia, Sergeant Hold writes about the meaning of death and expresses A PREMONITION OF HIS OWN DEATH IN COMBAT WHICH OCCURRED FEBRUARY 24th, 1864 WHILE ON PICKET DUTY NEAR DALTON, GA.

The letter is written in nice dark brown ink.  There are several small holes where the letter was folded, however, the letter is all readable and other than the one fold, in good shape!  A very desirable Confederate soldier’s letter!  We will also send the entire article from the Alabama Review.
