From our Black History/Slavery Collection: Two Early 6 Inch Plates Featuring Slaves
These 2 plates are what is called a children’s ABC plate, as they have the alphabet circled around the center image. The first shows a picture of a “poor Negro slave” with a little white girl making a donation. The second is entitled, “Gathering Cotton” and shows Negroes in the field. We obtained these 2 plates at an estate auction many years ago. We have not seen the second one which is colored in red, blue, yellow and green for sale. The first plate we saw an example sell for $450… and we feel our second plate is much rarer. Both in excellent condition and make for a tremendous display.

#B166 - Price for the pair $595
