Whittelsey became a Brevet. Brig. General for gallant and meritorious service during the war.   This pass “Head-Quarters Sixth Army Corps, Army of the Potomac” is dated May 12, 1865 and passes Col. Otho H. Binkey of the 110^th Ohio Volunteers “thru the picket line and return this day”.  Six years later, Whittelsey, who had become a Captain in the regular army fighting Indians, died at Fort Bridger, Wyoming.
