Early War Document from the 1st Capitol of the Confederacy – The Post Office Department Appoints a Post-Master in Spartanburg, S.C.
This printed document is dated May 20th, 1861 and it states that “The Postal Service under the authority of the Government of the United States, within the Confederate States, will be superseded by the service under the authority of the Confederate States on and after the first day of June next…” It is signed in type by John H. Reagan, Post-Master General.
