19th Mass. Battle Flags

Nice condition CDV showing the “shot up” battle flags of the famous 19th Mass. Infantry.  The 19th had one of the most colorful battle records of any regiment in the army of the Potomac.  At Antietam, it suffered severe loss in the West Woods.  At Fredericksburg, it crossed the river under fire and fought through the streets of the city.  At Marye’s Heights, it lost 104 officers and men including 8 color bearers!  At Gettysburg, it was heavily engaged near the Clump of Trees capturing four Confederate flags and losing nearly 50% of its numbers!
