1826 “Porter” Slave Badge – One of the Finest Marked “LAFAR” Examples We Have Owned
This example is in exceptional condition, perhaps a non-excavated example. It was made by Charleston’s most famous silversmith, LAFAR. Being an even year, it is square, as opposed to diamond shape used on odd years. At the top is *CHARLESTON* on the next line “PORTER” under that No. 258 and at the bottom 1826. The tag has a strong stamping. There are no holes, cracks or repairs.

Slave tags are just not being found like they were in past years. With the popularity of black history we sell quickly every tag we list. This one will be no exception as it is the example that we kept in our private collection after “upgrading” many times. A truly exceptional slave tag worthy of being in the finest museum or private collection. Included with the purchase is a photographic certificate of authenticity with lifetime guarantee.
