16th Mass. Infantry - Excellent Fair Oaks Battle Letter - Decaying Rebels Made the Atmosphere Very Unpleasant - One of Our Men Wounded in the Side: "The rebels had run a bayonet through his neck & searched his pockets"

This long 4 page letter was written in ink by Private Lewis Lahmeyer, Company A of the 16th Massachusetts Infantry.  The letter is headed, “Fair Oaks, Virginia June 19/62”.  We could give you some of the great lines, but to save time we will just scan the typed transcription that came with this letter 30 years ago.  You can see why we kept this letter it all those years!

Condition is good.  Several small breaks and toning but ink is nice and dark and has excellent display ability!

If you are a fan of the 16th Mass. or you just want a great battle letter on the battle of Fair Oaks, this one is a winner!
