This pass measuring 4 x 7 inches is printed on brown Confederate paper and filled in in nice dark ink. “Captain J. J. Prather is granted leave of absence for twenty (20) days.” “By Order of Major General Commanding W. K. Degraffenried A. A. General.”

The 14th Georgia Battalion of Light Artillery had the job to defend Atlanta from its invading Yankee forces. They held out for one more month before Atlanta fell on July 22, 1864.
