CDV of Gettysburg Commander Frederick F. Cavada, Lt. Col. of 114th PA. Vols. - Captured at Gettysburg & Sent to Libby Prison
In one of the books on Libby there is a great illustration of Cavada sitting at a table and in front of him is a box that he received from home that contained food, etc. Stenciled on the box is “F. F. Cavada, Prisoner of War, Libby Prison, Richmond”!!! The CDV has sharp definition, not faded and the corners have been trimmed to fit in an album. It was published by Charles D. Fredricks & Co.

This is the only example of Cavada that we have ever seen. Leading the 114th at Gettysburg he fought until he was totally exhausted and then captured. As you know, the 114th was known as the Collis Zouaves and had a great record. At Gettysburg they were placed in an exposed position, near the Sherfy house, which had held valiantly during the heavy fighting on July 2nd.

A rare, rare CDV.
